Moore Livestock will be selling 178 head of weaned steer calves in the 2025 Northern Livestock Early Fall Preview Sale on August 18th. They will be contracted at a base weight of 560lbs to be delivered between January 10th and January 20th, at the ranch scales 25 miles southwest of Harlowton, Montana.
Please Note: As of August 12th the Northern Video Sale Listing does not show that these calves are Verified Grass Fed or that they are ACR Certified Bird Friendly. We are working with Northern Livestock to update the listing, but the calves will carry those certifications regardless of the sale listing.
This group of calves is being represented by Gordy Bruner. Please feel free to contact him at (406)-671-1841 if you have any questions.
It is our normal practice to sell our steer calves at approximately 18 months of age. However, because of market conditions, we have elected to sell our 2025 born steer calves shortly after weaning. In the future, we anticipate that we shall return to our normal practice of selling yearlings.
Please be aware that Moore Livestock may be willing to run these steers through the winter months if the customer would like us to.

This group of calves will be approximately 8 months old at time of sale, having been born in late April through the end of May in 2025. They are to be weaned by the end of November.
These calves will have been weaned for a minimum of 45 days prior to delivery.
The entire group was raised here at Moore Livestock, and none of them have ever left the ranch. They have only one brand, a monogramed HF on the right hip.
All of these steers were sired by bulls from VanDyke Angus out of Manhattan Montana and the Fort Logan Ranch out of White Sulphur Springs, Montana. The dam’s for these cattle weigh between 1150 and 1300lbs, depending on how fat they are. The dam’s were mostly sired by bulls from the same ranches, with a few being sired by bulls from Green Mountain Angus out of Rygate, Montana. We try to select well balanced bulls with an eye towards maternal characteristics, good visual conformation, and growth potential.
Our 2022 Heifer Crop had an average frame score of 5.09 and our 2023 heifer crop had an average frame score of 5.21.
This group of steers has been raised strictly on grass and grass hay grown here at the ranch. We have a very low copper environment here, so they have been given quite a bit of RangePro Platinum 8 Mineral from Mountain West Ag out of Garneill, Montana. They have never received any other supplementation such as grain or cake.
These steers have been grazed in a fairly conventional fashion on mostly native pastures of medium to good quality. We are very confident that if they are given access to good finishing quality feed that they will explode, and grade very well to boot.
We have never sent any cattle off to be grass finished, however, we do believe that these steers would do very well in a grass finishing situation.
Our 2022 yearling steer crop gained an average of 74 lbs over 23 days (3.22 lbs/day) just prior to shipping October 7th of 2023. This was on an approximately equal mix of grass hayfield aftermath and native pasture.
Our 2023 yearling steer crop gained an average of 56lbs over 20 days (2.8 lbs/day) just prior to shipping October 10th of 2024. This was on a similar mix of grass hayfield aftermath and native pasture.
These cattle have all been trained to both electric fence and to Vence collars.
We will be glad to work with you if you would like these cattle to have any certifications they don’t already have. They should be eligible for pretty much anything. We may ask you to cover the cost of the audit, but other than that, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Thank you, and we hope you enjoy them!
