February 2026, Bred Heifers

Moore Livestock will be selling approximately 50 head of 2024 born bred heifers at the VanDyke Angus Ranch Bull Sale on February 19th, 2026 in Manhattan, MT.

Moore Livestock would like to thank everyone involved with the VanDyke Angus Ranch for generously allowing us to list a few of our bred heifers at their 2026 Bull Sale. We have been buying bulls from them for the last forty years, and in all of that time, the VanDyke ranch has been the best example of honesty and generosity that the cattle business has to offer. We are incredibly appreciative of everything they do, we love their cattle, and we are excited to continue buying bulls from them for as long as they are willing to sell them. We hope that you are too.

A note on calving dates:

I (Sanford) made a mistake when I was the particulars of our heifers to the Wulff & VanDyke families. When I initially told them what we were planning to take to the sale, I told them that we would have 50 heifers to sell with calving dates ranging from May 19th to June 18th. However, I looked again at my spreadsheet a couple days later, and I realized that we could easily have changed that to a May 14th to May 29th calving window while still having a full truckload to sell. Unfortunately, it was too late to change the catalog.

I deeply apologize for the mistake, and I would like to make sure that our customers know that we are more than happy to deliver a load of 50 heifers that conform to either window.

Thank you for your understanding, and please call me with any questions,

Sanford

Our Philosophy

Like many ranches across Montana, Moore Livestock has been breeding and developing our own replacements for a long time. In doing so we have attempted to broadly mimic the maternal characteristics you are likely to find in the VanDyke angus herd. The highest priority of our breeding program is fertility. After that, we aim for a moderate framed female, with good fleshing ability and moderate milking potential. She should reach a mature weight of 1,200 to 1,300 lbs.

To us, an ideal mother cow should require only moderate amounts of feed and very little supplementation to get through the winter in good condition. Going into the summer, she should be able to conceive within a fairly short breeding window. We then want her to give birth to an 80lb calf in the field without difficulty or assistance, get that calf up and going quickly, and keep track of her calf through the whole summer.

When it comes to weaning weights, we generally try not to push the envelope too far. We generally shoot for a weaning weight of approximately 525lbs (40% of mature body weight). This is because we have found that a slightly smaller weaning weight means that we are able to dramatically improve the number of cows that breed back each summer.

After weaning, we like cattle that can perform well in either a grazing environment or in a confined feeding operation.

Thank you for your interest in our cattle, and we hope they work well for you. Please get ahold of us anytime if you have any questions!
